  4. Cleaning the canals. The infected pulp is removed, and the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and shaped.
  5. Disinfection and sealing. The cleaned canals are disinfected and then filled with a sealing material to prevent future infection.
  6. Temporary filling. A temporary filling is placed to protect the tooth between appointments if treatment is being completed over two visits.

Crown placement. Once the tooth is fully treated, a crown is usually placed to protect it and restore normal chewing function.
