At Good Smile Dental in Windsor, we offer Invisalign® treatment as part of our cosmetic and orthodontic services. We take time at your first consultation to examine your teeth, discuss what you would like to change, and explain whether Invisalign® is likely to suit your case.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign® is a clear aligner system that, instead of brackets and wires, you wear a series of custom-made plastic aligners that fit snugly over your teeth. Each set is worn for one to two weeks, then swapped for the next in the series, gradually moving your teeth into the planned position.

Because the aligners are made from clear plastic, they are far less visible than traditional braces. They’re also removable, so you take them out to eat, drink anything other than water, and brush your teeth.

Invisalign® is designed to address a range of orthodontic issues, including mild to moderate crowding, spacing, and some bite concerns. However, not all mild to moderate orthodontic issues can be addressed by the treatment. 

Results still vary depending on the complexity of your case and how consistently you wear the aligners.

Is Invisalign right for me?

Invisalign® can be a good option for many people, but it’s not suitable for every case. It generally works well for:

  • Adults and teens who want a more discreet alternative to braces
  • Mild to moderate crowding, gaps, or alignment issues
  • Patients who are committed to wearing the aligners 20 to 22 hours per day
  • People who prefer being able to remove their aligners to eat and clean their teeth

More complex orthodontic cases, such as significant bite issues or severe crowding, may be better suited to traditional braces or another treatment approach. Your dentist will let you know honestly at the consultation whether Invisalign® is the right fit.

The Invisalign process at our Windsor clinic

Invisalign® treatment is typically spread over 12 to 18 months, though more complex cases may take longer.

  1. Consultation. We examine your teeth, discuss what you would like to change, and let you know whether Invisalign® is likely to work for your case.
  2. Scans and planning. We take digital scans of your teeth, which are used to map out a step-by-step treatment plan. You will see a preview of how your teeth are expected to move.
  3. Custom aligners made. Your aligners are manufactured by Align Technology and shipped to our Windsor clinic.
  4. Wearing your aligners. You’ll wear each set for one to two weeks, 20 to 22 hours per day. We schedule check-ins every 6 to 8 weeks to monitor progress.

Retainers. Once your teeth are in their final position, you’ll wear retainers to help keep them there. Teeth can shift over time without retention.

      The cost of Invisalign® in Windsor varies depending on the complexity of your case and the number of aligners needed. We provide a personalised quote during your Invisalign® appointment, so you know what’s involved before deciding.

      Invisalign® treatment is often partially covered under private health insurance, major dental or orthodontic extras, but the level of coverage depends on your fund and policy. We process HICAPS claims on the spot.

      What happens if I lose an aligner?

      Contact us as soon as possible. Depending on where you are in the series, we may suggest moving to the next aligner early, going back to the previous one, or ordering a replacement.
